Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today welcomed Tô Lâm to the Sri Lankan Parliament, describing Vietnam as a model nation that has successfully transformed adversity into economic growth, prosperity, and inclusive development.
Addressing Parliament during the Vietnamese President’s official visit, Premadasa praised Vietnam’s economic reforms under the “Doi Moi” policy framework, noting that the country had emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies while attracting billions of dollars in foreign direct investment annually.
He highlighted Vietnam’s success in attracting global investors such as Samsung through strong policies and economic planning, stating that Sri Lanka has much to learn from Vietnam in economic and micro-economic management.
Premadasa also emphasized the long-standing ties between Sri Lanka and Vietnam, recalling the visits of former Vietnamese leaders including Ho Chi Minh and former Prime Minister Pham Van Dong. He commended Vietnam’s non-aligned foreign policy approach and called for closer cooperation between the two countries in advanced technological sectors including electronics, artificial intelligence, and modern innovation industries. He expressed confidence that the visit would further strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation between Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
